IQVIA may not fully capture prescriptions written through telehealth channels, which Citi has flagged repeatedly for Foundayo. Why Wegovy pill built an early lead
The Wegovy pill launched about three months before Foundayo, carried the established Wegovy brand, and had full insurance coverage almost immediately. Foundayo's commercial coverage at the three major pharmacy benefit managers arrived in stages, with CVS Caremark beginning June 1. Evidence limitation
Cross-trial and indirect comparisons cannot establish that one pill is superior. The only randomized head-to-head data are in type 2 diabetes at lower oral semaglutide doses. A randomized head-to-head trial in obesity at the approved doses would provide the strongest evidence.

ACHIEVE-3, a head-to-head trial in type 2 diabetes, found Foundayo 9 mg and 17.2 mg gave greater A1C and weight reductions than oral semaglutide 14 mg, a lower dose than the Wegovy pill's 25 mg. Indirect comparisons point in different directions depending on population, so a randomized obesity head-to-head trial is still needed.
Which pill causes more nausea?
No valid head-to-head answer exists. U.S. News, summarizing the pivotal trials, reports nausea in 47% of Wegovy pill 25 mg patients in OASIS 4 and 35% of Foundayo 17.2 mg patients in ATTAIN-1. Different populations, durations and dose-escalation schedules limit that comparison. Both drugs cause mainly gastrointestinal side effects, most often during dose escalation.
Is Foundayo easier to take than the Wegovy pill?
Generally yes. Foundayo is taken once daily with or without food, at any time of day, with no special water rule. The Wegovy pill (oral semaglutide) must be taken under fasting conditions with a small amount of water, followed by a waiting period before eating or taking other medicines. Check the current prescribing information for exact timing.
Does Medicare cover the Wegovy pill or Foundayo?
Medicare's GLP-1 Bridge program began July 1, 2026 and offers eligible Part D beneficiaries certain weight-loss medicines, including Foundayo, for a $50 monthly copay under CMS clinical criteria. Manufacturer savings cards exclude government beneficiaries. Ask your plan or pharmacist whether your specific product is covered.
What serious warnings apply to both pills?
Both carry a boxed warning for thyroid C-cell tumors (seen in rodents; human relevance unknown) and are contraindicated with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2. Other warnings include severe gastrointestinal reactions, dehydration and kidney injury, pancreatitis and gallbladder disease. Seek prompt medical advice for severe or persistent abdominal pain or vomiting.
Do these pills interact with other medicines?
Possibly. GLP-1 medicines slow gastric emptying, which can change absorption of some oral drugs. Foundayo's prescribing information includes specific guidance on oral contraceptives after starting and after each dose increase. Share your full medicine list with your prescriber or pharmacist before starting either product.
Are the Wegovy pill and Foundayo available outside the United States?
Availability varies by country. In the UK, the MHRA approved the Wegovy pill on June 11, 2026 and Foundayo on August 10, 2026, according to a secondary source.
